BCI takes part in the Dragon Boat Festival and Brazil-China friendship celebration in Rio de Janeiro

On June 10, the China Town Restaurant in Rio de Janeiro was filled with a festive atmosphere. More than 100 guests from political, business and academic circles in Brazil and China, together with representatives of the Chinese community in Brazil and admirers of Chinese culture, gathered to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional festival that carries thousands of years of cultural memory of the Chinese nation.
The event was attended by several guests who also delivered remarks, including Huang Yehua, president of the Brazil-China Center for Scientific and Technological Innovation (CBCICT); Wang Haitao, deputy consul general of the Consulate General of China in Rio de Janeiro; Tia Ju, president of the Brazil-China Parliamentary Front of ALERJ; Chen Bingwen, president of the Chinese Cultural Association of Rio de Janeiro; and Márcia Melchior, president of the Riomont Association of Art and Culture.
Tia Ju said she has always closely followed the development of Brazil-China relations. She noted that China has become one of the most important partners of Brazil and of the State of Rio de Janeiro. According to her, cooperation between the two countries is not limited to trade and investment, but has also continued to deepen in education, culture, science and technology, as well as in people-to-people exchanges.
For Tia Ju, cultural activities such as the Dragon Boat Festival show that cultural differences are not a source of division, but rather bridges for dialogue, learning and friendship. She also emphasized that the presence of the Chinese community enriches Rio de Janeiro’s multicultural identity and continues to make a positive contribution to local economic, cultural and social development.
Huang Yehua said the Dragon Boat Festival represents China’s long cultural tradition, rich historical heritage and distinctive culinary culture, forming an important part of Chinese civilization. He noted that, as Dragon Boat Festival culture spreads in Brazil, this traditional celebration not only enriches local cultural life, but also plays a positive role in strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
He also called on more people to take part in Brazil-China cooperation in science, technology and innovation, stressing that technological progress and industrial development can bring new vitality to bilateral cooperation, allow history and culture to gain renewed life, and promote shared development and prosperity.
Wang Haitao said that, in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, the building of a Brazil-China community with a shared future has continued to make new progress. He said the two countries have achieved fruitful results in trade and investment, scientific and technological innovation, and local cooperation, showing broad prospects for development.
The deputy consul general emphasized that “relations between countries depend on the closeness of their peoples, and closeness between peoples depends on a connection of hearts.” He noted that more and more Brazilians are getting to know China by learning the Chinese language and understanding Chinese culture. At the same time, Chinese companies and Chinese residents in Brazil have been actively integrating into local society and giving back to their communities, building a solid foundation of public support for Brazil-China friendship.
Wang Haitao also said that the Consulate General of China in Rio de Janeiro will continue to serve as a bridge and link, supporting people-to-people exchanges and cultural interaction between the two countries, while promoting practical Brazil-China cooperation to reach new levels.
The event was jointly organized by Rio Guangzhou Tea House, the Sino-Brazilian Friendship Association and China Town Restaurant, with strong support from the Brazil-China Parliamentary Front of ALERJ, the Brazil-China Center for Scientific and Technological Innovation (CBCICT), the Riomont Association of Art and Culture, the Chinese Cultural Association of Rio de Janeiro, the Confucius Institute at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, the China-Latin America and Caribbean Trade Platform, and Nova Jornada Business Hub.
